About Me
Hi! I’m Melody, your local community alchemist and founder of Luna Skye Wellness. I am a trauma-informed, certified yoga and breathwork practitioner, cold therapy facilitator, and devoted mama. My journey through recovery, grief, cancer, and healing has taught me that transformation happens in community. I create spaces where breath, movement, cold immersion, and connection help people rise—together.
My Journey
In 2006, I kicked off my recovery from addiction—after years of childhood trauma, mental health struggles, and some truly questionable life choices. I was searching for freedom, healing, and maybe a little less chaos. What I found was connection. Real, soul-saving, connection. That’s what I now call Kula—a Sanskrit word for community. It became the heartbeat of my healing, and 19 years sober later, it still guides everything I do.
Life got good. I built a career in Calgary, married my best friend, and we had just welcomed our second baby girl into the world. We were living the dream—until December 2016, when the dream imploded. I became a widow overnight, on maternity leave, left to raise two babies under three. The grief and trauma cracked me wide open in ways I cannot even articulate. My usual “hyper-independence” approach to life was not going to work. I had no choice but to build my village, my Kula. And they came. They showed up with casseroles, hugs, and a whole lot of love. My Kula carried us through.
Movement became my medicine. In 2017, I completed my yoga teacher training—not only to deepen my practice and begin healing, but to honor a promise I made to my husband, rooted in my dream of one day opening a studio. In 2018, I entered two fitness competitions—not to impress anyone, but to remember who I was. Every day I got 2 hours of child minding, I was a better mom because of it and they had a blast. The gym was my therapy. My yoga mat? Sacred ground. My breath? My anchor.
Then 2019 said, “Hold my beer.” I was diagnosed with aggressive breast cancer. Eleven surgeries, chemo, hormone therapy, and a pandemic later, I was off work for a year, sick as hell, and terrified. My worst fear—“What if I can’t take care of my girls?”—was staring me down. But once again, my Kula showed up. My daughters never saw me at my sickest because we were surrounded by community again. We didn’t just survive—we thrived. And I knew: I had to create a space where everyone could find their Kula. Over the next 5 years, I went back to my corporate job, dabbled with teaching yoga and the odd workshop in my spare time to keep my soul alive, but as soon as I started getting traction, another plot twist.
Fast forward to January 2025: hot off a brutal break-up, my cancer came back. I was moving. Had more surgeries. Daily radiation. And now I was living in Cochrane, 45 minutes from my village and 30 minutes from the cancer center. The physical toll was brutal. The emotional toll? Even heavier. But my Kula wrapped around me again. I leaned into the unknown, into NEW community, and into the truth: we can’t do this alone.
So here we are. Luna Skye Wellness was born from all of it—the grief, the growth, the breath, the plunge, the people. Because we ALL need a Kula. Especially when life gets messy.
Why Luna Skye
Luna Skye is a tribute to my daughters and their middle names. They are my reason for choosing to define my circumstances rather than be defined by them. Luna Skye is more than a brand—it’s a living prayer for resilience, connection, and conscious healing.
My mission is to create spaces where people feel seen, held, and empowered to grow. Whether you’re navigating grief, trauma, illness, or simply seeking deeper connection, Luna Skye is here to remind you: you are not alone. Healing happens in community. It is my hope that in building Luna Skye, I can play a small part in helping others find their Kula.

My Philosophy
I believe the power of connection transforms lives. Whether through yoga, meditation, Reiki, cold plunge therapy, or simply being present for someone in need, I strive to create spaces where meaningful bonds foster healing and growth. Cold immersion, like deep breathwork and movement, invites us to meet our edges with courage and compassion—and reminds us that we’re never meant to do it alone.
My journey has taught me that we only keep what we have by giving it away, and that we are stronger together.
I’m always open to new connections and collaborations. Whether you’re seeking support, guidance, or simply a kindred spirit, I’d love to connect. Together, we can create a community rooted in light, purpose, and shared resilience.
Let’s connect
This is where the magic happens!
